Two Adults and Two Children Seriously Injured in Crash on South Side

CHICAGO, IL- Abc7chicago.com writes that four people suffered injuries in a serious car accident on Chicago’s South Side on Thursday, January 10, 2019.*

A Chevrolet Cavalier was driving east when the driver lost control of the vehicle at about 6:30 in the evening and hit a pole.

The driver was listed in critical condition when she was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital. A man was also taken to the University of Chicago Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. The children, who were 2 and 4 years old, were both transported to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. Both children were reportedly in stable condition.

Reports did not state what caused the woman to lose control over the vehicle.

As a result of damage done to the power pole, the lights in the area were shut off for safety reasons.

Utility poles are the object struck by vehicles more often than any other roadsideobject but trees. Hitting a utility pole adds an additional risk. In many instances, a vehicle will strike a utility pole leading to potentially devastating injuries, and in the process, also knock down electrical lines leading to livewires being down on the roadway and creating a serious hazard.

It is important always to assumethat one of these wires is live, even if it does not show signs of being active. No one should approach a power line. If you see one down, warn others to steer clear from the danger. The safest place to be in this situation isinside a vehicle. The current can pass through the vehicle and into the ground. Exiting the vehicle can mean being electrocuted.
