LASALLE COUNTY, IL- the centralillinoisproud.com reports that a 47-year-old man was killed in a crash in LaSalle County on Friday, September 14, 2018. The victim, Rick L. Fuller, was driving on E.2351 Road when his vehicle rolled over.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety(IIHS), about 41 percent of people killed in traffic incidents in the United States in 2016died in single-vehicle collisions. In Illinois, the percentage was even higher, and the numbers indicate that about 53 percent of motor vehicle deaths in the state occurred in accidents only involving one car.
Many of these crashes involve pickup trucks or SUVs. Because of the design of these vehicles, they are more likely to roll over, making them more prone to some of the deadlier single-vehicle crashes. People who died while traveling in pickup trucks were killed in one-vehicle accidents 59 percent of the time, and for people in SUVs, the number is only slightly lower at 56 percent of the time.
These taller more top-heavy vehicles are more likely to flip over, but they are also heavier than cars. This means that SUVs and pickup trucks present greaterrisks of rolling over but are safer when they are involved in crashes with other vehicles.
Many of these crashes are the result of simple driver errors. Distracted driving, driving under the influence, driving while drowsy and speeding all make rollover crashes more likely.Drivers who stay alert while they are behind the wheel can greater lower their risk of being in a serious one-vehicle crash.
