SOUTH HOLLAND- The chicago.suntimes.com writes that a five-vehicle collision took place on the Bishop Ford Freeway close to South Holland on Saturday, December 29, 2018. The crash killed one man, and injured threeother individuals.*
The accident took place at around 7:15 in the morning on Interstate 94. The crash happened when 51-year-old Manuel Juarez of Hegewisch was heading south and lost control of his 2000 Chevroleton the icy road. Juarez’s vehicle veered off the right side of the highway.
Juarez and a passenger that was with him exited the Chevrolet. A 46-year-old woman from Chicago then lost control of her 2004 Jeep on the ice and crashed into a concrete median before ending upon the shoulder to the right of the roadway. The passenger from Juarez’s vehicle helped the woman get out of her Jeep.
The three people stayed outside of their vehicles on the shoulder, andJuarez began walking along the right shoulder.
A 63-year-old mandriving a 2007 Chevrolet then lost control his vehicle and slid on the ice, striking the median. At that point, reports indicate that Juarez was knocked from the overpass. Juarez died at the scene of the accident.
Juarez’s death was ruled an accident.
Another vehicle, a 2016 Ford driven by a 36-year-old man from Cedar Lake, then hit the patch of ice and struck the barrier before colliding with the 2007 Chevrolet. A 27-year-old woman lost control of her car and hit the median and then struck the Jeep.
Three of the drivers were injured in the accident and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
