Man Killed in Single-Car Crash in Carrier Mills, Illinois

Carrier Mills, Illinoi– April 25, 2018 (Harrisburg Register) According to a report in the Harrisburg Register, one man died in a single-car wreck on Monday. The early afternoon crash happened when the sixty-four-year-old man lost control of his vehicle as he tried to pass another vehicle. According to officials, the man was traveling at a high rate of speed and improperly using the lanes of travel when his vehicle went off the road and struck a tree. The crash happened just outside of Carrier Mills, on northbound U.S. 45.

Drivers are allowed to pass other vehicles under certain conditions, such as when they can do so within a designated passing zone and while obeying the posted speed limit. When drivers attempt to pass in areas that are not designated passing zones, or they try to pass at high rates of speed, there is an increased risk that one or both vehicles will be involved in a crash.

If you would like to pass another vehicle, make sure you’re in an area where you are allowed to do so and check to see whether there’s enough space to make the pass safely. Use your turn signals to let other drivers know that you intend to pass. Use caution when passing bicycles, construction vehicles, or other vehicles that are on the side of the road, particularly those that are partially on the shoulder and partially in the traveled lane. In most places, passing any vehicle on the right is illegal, so be sure that you know the laws where you are driving. If you have any doubt about whether you should pass a vehicle, it’s safest to stay where you are because passing accidents often result in serious injury or death.
