Interstate-44 Collision Injures Illinois Driver in Missouri

MISSOURI- Joplinglobe.com reports that a driver from Illinois sustained injuries in a one-vehicle crash that took place on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. The accident happened in Lawrence County.

The victim, 25-year-old Connor P. Poglajen, of Jerseyville, Illinoiswas transported to the Mercy Hospital Springfield where he was treated for moderate injuries.

The police report indicates that Poglajen was traveling west when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a rock bluff.

Single vehicle accidents involving cars veering off the roadway kill about one out of every five traffic accident victims. These crashes often involve a car leaving the road and hitting a fixed object, such as a tree or a pole. The most commonly struck object is a tree. Drivers also frequently rollover in these crashes. Rollover collisions are also highly deadly.

Most of these crashes are entirely avoidable and result because of driver errors. While there are times when the weathermight play a role in one of these types of crashes, in most cases, drivers involved in severe single-vehiclecrashes were speeding, driving drunk, distracted, or driving while drowsy.

It is difficult to prevent drivers from making bad decisions. One way to make the roads safer is to avoid having objects close to the road so that drivers are less likely to strike a fixed object. However, it might not be possible to remove all roadside objects, and so sometimes breakaways or barriers may help prevent some severe crashes,

Strict enforcement of moving violations may also help. In 90 percent of crashes where drivers left to the road, the driver was traveling above the speed limit.
