Drunk Driver 3 Times Legal Limit When He Caused Severe Crash in Will County, Illinois

WILL COUNTY, IL- Patch.com writes that a 29-year-old driver had a blood alcohol concentration that was over three times the legal limit when he caused a serious collision with another vehicle. The driver, Nicolae Rebeja, 29, was charged with “driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed, following too closely and operating an uninsured vehicle.”

The person in the other vehicle suffered serious injuries including a brain bleed, a fractured skull, and a fractured sternum in the collision.

Rebeja’s blood was drawn following the crash, and the results of the test indicated that his blood alcohol concentration was .263. This was not the first offense for Rebeja, who was found guilty of a previous DUI in 2014, also in Will County.

However, Rebeja, who lives in Joliet, was not booked at the time of the 2014 DUI.

Court documents indicate that Rebeja is facing “four counts of aggravated driving under the influence.”

Drivers who are under the influence of alcohol have long been a problem for all people on the road. For decades, there have been aggressive campaigns to end this dangerous practice. While the rate of drunk driving has significantly dropped, alcohol still factors into a large percentage of crashes in the United States every year.

It is important for people to take the necessary precautions to avoid driving while under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. There are plenty of options for people who wish to avoid driving under the influence, including having a designated sober driver, taking a taxi, taking public transportation, or using a rideshare service.
