ILLINOIS- Stegenherald.com writes that a woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 55 at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018. One of the drivers involved in the crashfled the scene on foot.*
The injured woman, 37-year-old Carmella L. Lawrence of Cahokia, Illinois was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Impala and traveling northbound when the crash took place. The other vehicle was a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, which was also driving north. The Malibu crashed into the back of Lawrence’s vehicle. The driver of the Malibu left the scene on foot.
Lawrence was transported to the Mercy Hospital Jefferson.
Lawrence was using a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Hit and run crashes have been increasing across the United States. One of the major problems with these types of accidents is that many drivers are never caught.
