ELGIN, IL- The dailyherald.com writes that a man from Elgin was killed in a crash on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at about 4:58 in the morning. The victim’s name has not yet been released, but he was 34-years-old. The man was fatally injured when his truck ran off the road and hit a light pole.*

The truck was being used to carry damaged vehicles. The roadway was closed after the crash for around 8 hours while police investigated the scene. The images from the scene show that the truck had sustained severe damage in the accident.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the crash contact the police.

Single-vehicle crashes are responsible for around twenty percent of all motor vehicle fatalities. These collisions often involve vehicles crashing into fixed objects such as trees or utility poles. Drivers need not lose their focus on the road for long to cause this type of accident. In most cases, drivers are speeding, but alcohol, distracted driving, anddrowsy driving are all likely causes of these accidents as well.

Large trucks are unwieldy vehicles that cannot maneuver well or stop quickly. Drivers who operate these vehicles are sometimes at risk of causing accidents because they are on the road for long stretches of time and can end up fatigued. The law permits truck drivers to operate their vehicles for stretches of up to 11 hours at a time. While 11 hours seems like a long time to operate a vehicle, many drivers admit to staying on the road for even longer periods of time. When people drive for this long, they are at risk of becoming fatigued. This can lead to inattentive and potentially dangerous driving.
