RIVERSIDE, IL- Fox32chicago.com writes that a woman was charged with a DUI after being caught driving the wrong way on a one-way streetat about 4:06 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in Riverside.*
The driver of a 2018 Ford caused a police vehicle to almost berun off of the road because she was traveling into oncoming traffic. The officer turned his vehicle around and pulled the wrong-way driver over. The woman driving the vehicle, Alexis Cara Davis, 22 of Riverside informed the officer that she has an out of state driver’s license from Kentucky, which she believed meant that she did not have to follow Illinois traffic laws.
The officer stated that Davis’ speech was slurred and that she had bloodshot eyes and was confused about her own location. Davis failed the sobriety field test that was administered on the scene. The officer then arrested Davis.
In the driver’s vehicle,the officer found 73 pills that were a type of benzodiazepineand a substance that was later found to bepositive for heroin. At the station, the driver refused a drug test. Reports indicate that she appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Davis was charged with “drugged driving, driving in the wronglane, illegal lane usage and felony possession of a controlled substance.” This arrest marks the second time in a week that a wrong-way driver was arrested for driving under the influence in Riverside.
Officers say that Davis was clearly under the influence of drugsand that they are seeing more instances of drivers who are impaired by prescription drugs and heroin in the metropolitan area.
