CARROLLTON – According to RiverBender.com, Illinois State Police have been investigating a tragic and fatal accident that happened at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2018. The car accident occurred on U.S. Route 67 at Macoupin Creek Bottom which is located in Greene County, Illinois.*
The Illinois State Police stated that Mary Griffth, 47, from Carrollton has sustained fatal injuries in the tragic, fatal auto accident.
The report states that one of the vehicles was traveling northbound on US Route 67 at Macoupin Creek Bottom while the second car was traveling southbound. Unknown at this time is why one vehicle crossed the center line causing a head-on collision. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri and was later pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital located in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Because of the unsafe driving conditions at the time, US Route 67 was closed. The fatal accident is currently being investigated by the (TCRU) Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
