Tragically, hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians are rather common. States have been struggling to find ways tostop drivers from fleeing the scene of accidents in what is sometimes referred to as an epidemic of hit-and-run crashes. A big part of the issue is that many people who flee the scene of crashes are never caught or prosecuted for their actions. Early alert systems can serve to help police collect information about the person who fled the scene. Harsher legal repercussions for fleeing the scene of an accident are being used in an attempt to discourage people from leaving the scene of a crash.
