CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. — A violent crash on Joe Orr Road in Chicago Heights that happened on Monday, April 1, 2019, took the life of a 40-year-old woman. Two other people were also hurt in the wreck according to the Illinois Patch. Chicago Heights police accident investigators currently have the crash under investigation. Their reconstruction report is not completed. There was no information available concerning the status of their inquiry or whether criminal charges might be forthcoming.
Chicago Heights police, fire, and rescue responded to Joe Orr Road and Lowe Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2019, for a report of a severe accident. When emergency responders arrived, they found a 2013 Nissan Altima with massive rear-end damage and a 2008 Chevy Avalanche with substantial front-end damage. First responders found two women in the Altima: a 40-year-old female driver and her 22-year-old passenger. Both women are suffering from injuries caused by the collision.
Crews removed both victims from the wreck. Medics transported the 40-year-old driver to an emergency room at Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields. Physicians attending to the woman could not resuscitate her and declared her dead from her injuries. The woman who died lived in Chicago Heights. The 22-year-old female passenger removed from the Altima is from South Chicago Heights. Medics transported her to Christ Hospital located in nearby Oaklawn for treatment. Her current medical status was not made available.
The driver of the Avalanche also sustained injuries in the crash. Authorities transported that driver to South Suburban Hospital located in Hazel Crest for treatment. The physical condition of the driver was not disclosed. Officers did not release any identifying information about the driver of the Chevy Avalanche.
Chicago Heights police say that the accident investigation is active. They are trying to piece together why the Avalanche slammed into the rear of the Altima was such force that the Altima’s driver was killed. Police did not announce any arrests.
